Say Goodbye to Umbraco 7: the shift to Umbraco 10

Out with the old, and in with the new. You may have heard that Umbraco 7 is hurtling towards end-of-life. This sounds quite alarming, but what does it really mean?

In September 2023, Umbraco 7 will reach end-of-life, having entered the security-only phase in July 2021. Whilst this doesn't mean that your website is going to suddenly vanish overnight, there are some significant negative implications to consider. The Umbraco team will no longer support the Umbraco 7 software. There will be no new features, no fixes will be released and security issues won't be addressed. In short, any website built on Umbraco 7 will be vulnerable to security threats and have notably outdated features. Umbraco themselves have discouraged using Umbraco 7 once it has reached end-of-life.  All good things come to an end, and the same can be said for Umbraco 7... but never fear, Umbraco 10 is here!

Wherever there's a problem, there's a solution. Now is the perfect time to upgrade to the most powerful software yet; Umbraco 10. The clock is ticking, the longer you wait, the more costly and complex the migration to Umbraco 10 will be.

What's new with Umbraco 10?

Put simply, Umbraco 10 is the most modern version yet. It is faster and more reliable, with enhanced security features. This promises a healthier, up to date website and an optimized experience for both developers and users alike.

Arguably the most notable change is the use of .NET 6 framework and the resulting extended cross-platform capabilities with Umbraco 10. Unlike ever before, it has full functionality for developers using Windows, Linux or Mac platforms. Once you have made the recommended move to Umbraco 10, future upgrades will be more predictable and less laborious thanks to this Long Term Support release (the first of its kind).

We would struggle to think of any convincing reason to stay on Umbraco 7; if Umbraco themselves are moving on, so should you!
