AkzoNobel is a global corporation, best known in the UK for the Dulux brand. It is located in over 80 countries across 18 businesses. Since 2008 its business focus has changed from being a diversified conglomerate to a focused coating and chemicals company. Part of this process has been the need for departments across the world to be able to collaborate and effectively share knowledge. To facilitate this goal, ClerksWell worked with AkzoNobel to create a Global Market Research Hub, which was, at its simplest, a search driven knowledge management solution.


The Consumer insight team’s aim was to produce a secure knowledge hub to house insight documents in a simple-to-expand library of business intelligence and provide users with the opportunity to engage with insight beyond simply finding relevant documents. One of its business functions was to reduce geographical silos and facilitate AkzoNobel to work as a global company.


ClerksWell started the project with a discovery phase to gather business requirements, carry out research and identify the issues of the existing UK solution. ClerksWell then developed the Information Architecture for the new site using the outcomes of the discovery phase and input from ClerksWell’s Customer Engagement consultants. AkzoNobel were delighted with the outcome. Together we went on to develop a solution that exceeded the business requirements and harnessed SharePoint search, collaboration and bespoke views of data and knowledge management.
